Wavetel WR574 5G Router for Smart City Video Surveillance

PDF

Overview:

The Wavetel WR574 5G Router provides reliable, high-bandwidth connectivity for smart city CCTV systems, enabling real-time video transmission from surveillance cameras to central monitoring stations without the need for fixed-line infrastructure.

Challenge:

  • Traditional wired networks are impractical for remote or temporary camera installations

  • Public safety requires 24/7 surveillance with zero downtime

  • High-resolution video streams demand consistent, high-bandwidth connections

  • Multiple network carriers may be needed for reliable coverage across urban areas

  • Remote locations lack IT staff for frequent maintenance

Solution:

The WR574 delivers:

✔ 5G/LTE connectivity with dual SIM failover for uninterrupted video transmission

✔ High-speed backhaul (up to 600Mbps) for multiple HD/4K video streams

✔ Ethernet ports for direct NVR/DVR/IP camera connections

✔ Secure VPN tunnels for encrypted video transmission

✔ Remote management for configuration and video monitoring

Benefit:

· Always-on surveillance: WAN failover and Sim failover

· Rapid deployment: Install cameras anywhere with cellular coverage

· Superior video quality: 5G bandwidth supports high-resolution streams

· Reduced infrastructure costs: Eliminates expensive cabling

· Centralized monitoring: Real-time access to all camera feeds

· Wide operating temperature range: -30°C to 70°C

FAQ

How do remote cameras connect without a fixed broadband line?

Connect the IP camera or NVR to the site's router by Ethernet and use the cellular network as the uplink to the monitoring center. Camera power and the local Ethernet connection are still required.

How many video streams can one cellular uplink carry?

Add the configured bitrates of all simultaneous streams and allow capacity for protocol overhead and other traffic. Compare that total with measured upload capacity at the site; a peak router speed is not a guaranteed camera capacity.

Will dual-SIM switching keep every live stream uninterrupted?

Not necessarily. The backup SIM can restore network access when a usable second operator is available, but video or VPN sessions may need to reconnect. Test the actual camera, recorder and viewing application during failover.
